It’s actually a project that I’ve had in mind for a while now, and is inspired by classic arcade slash ’em-up games such as Gauntlet, Golden Axe, Shadow over Mystara and Knights Of The Round. Up to two players can play together locally as they take the fight to the enemy, but we will be looking to revitalise the genre with new gameplay elements, improved controls, some of the best pixel art around (by me!), and a superb soundtrack by an industry legend.
It’s the first time since Lomax for PSone that I’ve got a project of my own again which means putting in a lot of extra efford not possible when doing commissioned work bound to budget and time.
The game is being developed with retro gaming in mind for release on Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC and maybe some other platforms

[...] it is a classic style platformer that plays more like the NES and SNES Castlevania, Ghosts 'n Goblins, MegaMan and Ninja Gaiden games. There are no mechanics that require you to backtrack to access previously inaccessible areas. Players can return to previously completed levels to obtain powerups they previously missed if they wish, similar to Mega Man X, but it is not required for the progression of the game.

we've been quite bogged-down with getting the final parts done and getting the ports to behave correctly (at the right speed, fixing bugs etc)
The console porting has been much more difficult than expected but the game is running well now on different systems.
I've been trying very hard not to compromise the action in any way, and this has meant remaking some old code and optimising heavily to get the performance the same as PC version.

This game is being developed around a "near miss" mechanic. Grazing enemy bullets and enemy ships increases the power, or Kinetic Energy, of your ship. The more Kinetic Energy you build, the stronger you become.

Keep in mind you can parry , block and even reflect attacks, do invincible dashes and juggle enemies until they're bopped outta the screen. With a little experimentation, even large groups of enemies can be defeated in instants.
