Tema: Official ports of arcade games for Japanese WIN.

So even if most of these are irrelevant thanks to MAME/consoles or due to their low-profile nature I guess it's time we get a proper catalog of what was made in this area for the sake of documentation.

First thing to note is that many of them were released through Mediakite's Yuu-Yuu budget series. This is a label for rereleases of products from other companies, but it seems many of these were originally launched this way. Mediakite also had a series for MD ports. Didn't last for too long, but at least they picked Gunstar Heroes.

There are a lot of these arcade ports for other Asian markets and indeed Cyberfront's SNK titles were based on Taiwanese versions by other companies, if I recall.

It'll be interesting to know with the time which ones of these use emulation, or even MAME, and their accuracy. I'm still to decide if they'll get a place in Postback 2.0, though.

Re: Official ports of arcade games for Japanese WIN.

Project Egg ports a lot of stuff from many different systems, I think only one arcade game:

Freaking awesome catalog aside of that. So many cool Japanese PC games. Let me know if you have any questions about these games, I know some of their former employees.

Re: Official ports of arcade games for Japanese WIN.

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention this was for retail games only. EGG is indeed amazing for its catalog. It has many arcade titles. Nichibutsu's have been there for some years now if I recall, and recently DECO was added. Project EGG does deserve an article for Western audiences, so maybe I'll be hearing you in the future.

A Splatter House video, in order to get an idea of what to expect (there're a couple of full-screen display modes):

Re: Official ports of arcade games for Japanese WIN.

I could be wrong, but if you search the database for games categorized by アーケード, there's only that one. I think the Data East stuff is just FC and MD games, all developed by G-mode.

Anyway they have retail stuff too, such as Nichibutsu Early Collection: http://www.amusement-center.com/project … index.html

I'd guess they were ported from the original arcade versions though.

Re: Official ports of arcade games for Japanese WIN.

EGG did some other retail stuff years back. The first was Relics Anthology, which was a compilation of every version of Relics (also came with a little figurine)

Then they did Daiva Chronicle, which had all the Daiva games, and after that Valis Collection, which unfortunately had only the PCE Valis games, none of the computer ones.

Re: Official ports of arcade games for Japanese WIN.

That's good to hear. I guess they only sold them through the internet?

Re: Official ports of arcade games for Japanese WIN.

No idea, but I've always wanted to grab Relics Anthology and Daiva Chronicle. They are quite expensive to get now though. Also the Valis thing is actually called Valis Complete, not collection, and also came with a figure.

Gamebank's origins as a game publisher as per Game Machine (Japanese) magazine:
