@Ocelote: If I understand correctly, you've been playing the game for a day and you are enjoying it, but you find the designs bland? I agree, man. It's too bad that they didn't do a better work in that department. I've heard a lot of people say that they are unwilling to play this simply because of the designs... It's just too bad.

@Recap: I am thinking of emailing Yuki about Tenka. You know, the Japanese Wikipedia page of the SS series may list them as the developers of Tenka, but Yuki's own Wikipedia page doesn't... And I haven't been able to find out anything by checking their site. If indeed it turns out they had nothing to do with Tenka I'll have to rewrite the first couple of paragraphs of my review. It will be a... slight embarrasment.

Recap escribió:

Do Donpachi
Do Donpachi Dai-Ou-Jou

Is the above correct, Recap?

Pretty much, I'd say. Being really picky: "Do Donpachi: Dai-Ou-Jou" is better.

Good suggestion, I'll go with that.

Or should I be writing "DonPachi"?

Why in the world should you? (And no, finding it in Wikipedia is not a valid reason, much less on Shmups Dot Com's forum or MAME).

No, I'd never trust MAME. The reason I bring this up is because on the cover of the PS port it's spelled "DonPachi" -- check it out. Good enough reason to adopt it?

Tougher than all the above is DDP II, I think. This can either be written Bee Storm: Do Donpachi II, or Do Donpachi II: Bee Storm.

Hum. Not only that's not the original name for the game, it's not the Japanese form either, so maybe I'm not the best to answer but I'd definitely say the latter. Seems that the only reason one may supposedly have to write "Bee Storm: Do Donpachi II" is that "Bee Storm" has more "relevance" in the game logo, which is never an actual reason for anyone really used to this stuff.

Do never trust the interweb [for Japanese naming], seriously, especially the Western side of it.

Again here, I didn't get my information from a website or forum. I just look at the flyers. The Taiwanese name I can't make out, so I am just looking at the Japanese/Western flyers. And yeah, the reason I am suggesting "Bee Storm: Do Donpachi II" is because in one flyer the "Bee Storm" is more promiment. But you are right, it doesn't make sense to adopt it just because they decided to draw it larger for aesthetic reasons or whatever. So I guess for the Japanese title I should use "Do Dodonpachi II: Bee Storm".

OR, "Do DonPachi II: Bee Storm"?

I thought perhaps we can use this thread to discuss the proper or "best" way to transliterate the titles of Japanese games. I do know quite a bit about the subject, but not as much as I would like to.

So I was wondering what the correct way would be to write the names of Cave's donpachi series. Here's what I use right now:

Donpachi
Do Donpachi
Do Donpachi Dai-Ou-Jou

Is the above correct, Recap? Or should I be writing "DonPachi"?

Tougher than all the above is DDP II, I think. This can either be written Bee Storm: Do Donpachi II, or Do Donpachi II: Bee Storm.

Yeah, check the Japanese Wikipedia page of the SS series.

I've reviewed this:

The videos are from tournament fights and are especially worth watching (though image quality doesn't do the game justice).

Fair enough, that sounds quite reasonable. I would normally have gone back to gamengai now to check twe's response to this, but he deleted it!

Actually, yeah, I didn't read that whole thread -- only a couple of posts.

And I agree that G.rev's game should be referred to as Senko no Ronde in English, because that's how G.rev themselves decided to transliterate it. But until I see Success calling their game Itsuwari no Ronde, I don't see why I shouldn't just follow the katakana reading as normal.

If you have some strong objection to this would you please mind briefly explaining it to me? Or would I find your explanation by going back and checking that gamengai thread?

Ok, well, one way or another I'll make sure that those visiting my forum know that I regularly use your site as a news source.

As for Itsuwari, is "Rondo" a mistake? That's what it says in katakana in the official page...

Has Success written the title as "Itsuwari no Ronde" anywhere on the official site?

Hey man, I have decided to start copying your style of news reporting for the benefit of those visiting my forum. Now since it is easier for me to let you do all the digging about upcoming 2D releases and just more or less copy-paste them for the benefit of my English-speaking readers, I would like to ask you what sort of acknowledgement would you like for your work? Do you want me to link you in every thread I steal from you?

I would be prepared to do that, if you insist on it.

The other thing I was thinking of doing is stickiying a thread at the top of the 'games' forum which would contain links to all my sources: Game Watch, Famitsu, Ariesu no Kobayan, etc., and of course this place...

Oh, I guess that makes sense. I was thinking that maybe they took the pages down after a set period of time, because, you know, scans are illegal and all.

Thanks for the Mana-Khemia link!

Here's an example of a dead Ruliweb link from the Mana-Khemia thread:

http://postback.geedorah.com/foros/view … 1514#p1514

Where do these pages go? Check for example your Culdcept Saga thread and you'll see that every single one of the half-dozen Ruliweb links is dead.

What I am looking for is primarily scans, but also for general info regarding various games.

I was wondering what's going on with all the Ruliweb links in this forum. It seems that after a while they die out... ?

The reason I am asking is because I am trying to set up an archive with scans, etc. on my site, and so I've been browsing Postback for relevant links. The Ruliweb links are almost all dead now.

Thanks. However note that I am the only one allowed to write in English here. I don't want Recap to get pissed off at me for starting a trend!
