"Toki" fue la adaptación para Occidente del Juju Densetsu de Tad.

Esto duele. Pero tranquilo Recap, dentro de uno o dos años realizarán un nuevo capítulo para DS que se verá de lujo, pero en pequeño. :P
Bueeeno, habría que esperar a verlo en movimiento antes de crucificarlo.
Podría ser peor, acordaos del remake del Sparkster.
También te puedes acordar de Wario Land Shake [ > ] y comparar las dotes para dibujar personajes estilo 'cell' de japoneses y occidentales.
Las únicas novedades de este Toki 2009 parece que se limitarán al 're-styling' visual y la cuestión es que es un resultado muy inferior al original, incluso si su animación es estupenda -- que, puedes apostar, no lo será. Para qué se molestan, entonces.
Es como cuando las casas europeas de los 80-90 nos obsequiaban con sus interpretaciones para las cubiertas de las traslaciones que realizaban para los ordenadores de la época. Salvo alguna excepción del gran Wakelin, siempre te quedabas rascándote la cabeza intentando encontrar algún parecido con el estilo original:

I think it looks pretty good. The liberties they've taken don't bother me too much since it's not like the original was done in the typical manga style.
I've no problem with liberties in the end as long as it's a good enough work. And those sprites, while better than SSFIITHDR's, just lack the class of Japanese designs -- manga-style or not. The new facial expressions / personalities for the enemies are annoying to a point indeed. And I won't even mention the font.
This is not like the Boy and his Blob case [ > ], where the original was so bad that the remake, with all the liberties and whatnot, shines despite having an average visual design. My problem with Toki 2009 is that it's just cloning Juju Densetsu with less visual quality. So what's the point.
Anyway, I'll admit that the animation, 'cept for some situations, is slightly better than what I expected:

Sí, no respetan demasiado la estética del original, pero a tampoco me importa demasiado.
I agree that a Japanese game artist could do better. They seem to have the best grasp of what shapes do and don't work when trying to make something look cute (they for instance, probably would have never drawn those hideous cheekbones on the idol in the image you posted.) But how many of them are actually trying something like this?
Considering that even Wario Land Shake's sprites were entirely made by an animation company, I'm not sure if there's still somebody. But that's part of the vindication thing here, isn't it? Everybody complaining for the absence of quality [2D] art since turds like Toki 2009 don't do -> demand increase -> Japanese get back to their old business.
